Water Cremation
PROCESS
Water Cremation is performed to prepare the remains of the pet for final disposition. It is carried out by placing the pet’s remains into a sterilized stainless-steel vessel, with a gentle flow of warm water (95%) and alkali (5%).
Alkali are salts from the earth, which are commonly used in cosmetic products, body washes and shaving creams. In this process, it is used to accelerate the natural decomposing process, by stimulating the breakdown of organic materials.
Due to the nature of water cremation, non-organic items such as collars, blankets or toys, cannot be placed inside the vessel and will be removed. Unless otherwise specified, these items will be recycled or donated to a local animal shelter.
At the end of the process, a completely sterile solution of amino acids, sugars, nutrients, salts and soaps is drained from the vessel and safely returned into the eco-system.
The hydrolyzed remains or calcium phosphate (bones) are individually recovered from the vessel. Surgical implants are removed and recycled, with funds being donated to an animal welfare organisation.
Following a natural drying period (24-48 hours), the hydrolyzed remains are respectfully prepared into a sand-like consistency for placement into an urn or memorial keepsake and returned to the owner or vet.
Water Cremation
Options
Individually-Partitioned Cremation
In this instance, each pet is placed into their own individual stainless-steel cradle, along with their individually numbered stainless-steel tracking disc.
The cradle consists of 4 solid walls with minor perforations on the top and bottom, which allows the gentle movement of water to flow through. As remains do not move from within their cradle, multiple cradles can be placed within the vessel at the same time, without any risk of comingling.
The pet’s location is documented and the hydrolysed remains are removed one at a time and kept separated. Each pet’s individual hydrolysed remains are returned to the client.
Communal Cremation
Multiple pets will be placed into the vessel at one time with no separation. This process allows for the co-mingling of hydrolysed remains. Blue Leaf Water Cremation will scatter the remains in a private ceremony or in any matter permitted by law and will therefore be non-recoverable to the owner.
